In the early 1990s rubies of extraordinary quality were unearthed in Mong Hsu, in Myanmar's Shan State. Stoplight red in colour, they rank among the finest rubies ever found. Rubies are one of the most well-known gemstones, along with diamonds, emeralds, and sapphires. Rubies are often associated with wealth and prosperity. Many ancient crowns were decorated with rubies because they represented good fortune and courage. The ruby's deep red color also has ties to love, passion, and raw emotion. The most desirable shade of ruby is a deep red with a hint of blue which is referred to as "pigeon's blood. Its glowing hue suggests an inextinguishable flame within the stone - No matter what shade, Ruby has always been defined by a single characteristic – its radiant red color.
